Crank by Ellen Hopkins giveaway!!!

So I had a poll on my blog that asked what book I should give away on my blog and the popular answer was… drum roll please…

Crank by Ellen Hopkins!

In Crank, Ellen Hopkins chronicles the turbulent and often disturbing relationship between Kristina, a character based on her own daughter, and the "monster," the highly addictive drug crystal meth, or "crank." Kristina is introduced to the drug while visiting her largely absent and ne'er-do-well father. While under the influence of the monster, Kristina discovers her sexy alter-ego, Bree: "there is no perfect daughter, / no gifted high school junior, / no Kristina Georgia Snow. / There is only Bree." Bree will do all the things good girl Kristina won't, including attracting the attention of dangerous boys who can provide her with a steady flow of crank.
Soon, her grades plummet, her relationships with family and friends deteriorate, and she needs more and more of the monster just to get through the day. Kristina hits her lowest point when she is raped by one of her drug dealers and becomes pregnant as a result. Her decision to keep the baby slows her drug use, but doesn't stop it, and the author leaves the reader with the distinct impression that Kristina/Bree may never be free from her addiction.

This book was very well written and very poetic. Anyway so I’m giving away this book to one lucky person! This giveaway is only available to people in the U.S. sorry everyone else =(

To enter just answer the following question: Is there any kind of organization at your school, work or even outside of that, which helps with drug prevention? If not, then what would you do to help promote drug prevention?

  1. Is there any kind of organization at your school, work or even outside of that, which helps with drug prevention? Well, I'm going to be honest and say I have no idea, maybe D.A.R.E. would be the only organization I can think of.
If not, then what would you do to help promote drug prevention? I definitely would want to go to schools and talk to kids/teens about the causes of drug uses and how they can prevent getting mixed into it.

Hm, I will be real honest here. I don't think there is much anybody can do to prevent it. People who use it are weak at the moment. They need someone to be there for them. They see life from a dark place where they think drugs might help. As a mother, I wish I could create a bubble around my daughter so she doesn't even hear about them. But that's no good. It's an issue where you need to be open and real and give the person as much info as they need, and it will ultimately be one's own decision.

  4. Just became a follower : D

In our city there's a place called Rusty's House that is a meeting place for young adults under the age of 27 who are suffering from addiction problems. They have meetings for parents as well.
They have really been a great help to our community.

One method for drug prevention is - get involved- on what ever level you can. If you think it doesn't involve you - think about it - addiction affects everyone.

  5. Is there any kind of organization at your school, work or even outside of that, which helps with drug prevention? Yes, there are many in the community. I don't know how much they help though. I think the best thing is to have supportive parents and good friends.

  6. We used to have DARE when I was younger but I'm not sure if my school has anything too much now. I don't know what I could do on my own but I do believe in drug prevention.

  11. In the middle school where I teach there is a group of kids that work together to promote staying off drugs. They put up posters, host events and make announcements. It's great that it's student lead.

  13. In the school system, there is a DARE program. Forget what it stands for, but it is to promote staying away from drugs for the kids. I am sure my college has at least one program, but I am not sure what it is sorry.

I'm not sure, but we do have signs posted on the grounds about the hike in a penalty for selling drugs on school property.
